This 160-page book can take an absolute layman, armed only with persistence,
and turn it into a person able to read simple Classic and New Testament Greek passages with the help of reference books.
It does it in an easy-to-read, conversational tone, lovingly taking the reader by the hand and introducing inflection as painlessly as possible.
In order to achieve this, the author, shrewdly, takes a couple of shortcuts that would make purists cringe: he does without accents and breathings, and most of the nominal declension is guessed by just memorizing the declension of the articles.
I believe this is brilliant!
This book is a self-contained introcuction to the language. It is not a grammar, nor a lexicon, nor a phrase book but a little of each, just enough to keep the readers' interest going.
It is a nice addition to anyone's library: as a beginner Classics student, you might find yourself complementing your regular course with fairly advanced topics introduced to you in an almost conversational way. As a teacher, you might find in this book at least some teaching ideas and original approach. As a person who never took any formal ancient Greek course but would like to approach the language, buy this book if not anything else.
Thank you, Paul Jones!
